Challenging Boys

There are some days where I need to remind myself how much laughter the cute little blonde boy brings me. These are the days when laughter is needed to ward off the tears. I will agree wholeheartedly that he’s funny, but he is also very strong-willed and challenging. My comment to most people who giggle at his quirks is to say, "If he was my first...he would have been my last!" I don't know if I am just getting too old to keep up or what, but this child is a ball of energy with wheels that don't stop turning in his brain. But I am thankful God blessed me with him four years ago.

Today I am linking up with all the cool people who post Top Ten lists. My contribution? Top Ten reasons to be a mom to a challenging boy!

He does silly (and sometimes gross) things with his food. He is creative.

He thinks he is pretty cool. He is confident.

He wants to be just like his big brother. He is proud.

He gets mad when you try to sing to him…remind me to tell you the Bob Evans birthday story someday. He is funny!

He can pull off the hat look. He is chic.

How can you not laugh?? He is uninhibited.

He can be considered an angel…of sorts.

He’s my “super helper" in the kitchen, in the laundry room, and in the yard. He has a servant's heart.

He has a love of learning just like his mama.He is intuitive (unlike his mama).

Sometimes he sleeps. He is peaceful.

There are so many good things about this little guy that I must focus on - like his huge heart, incredible smile, and creative genius. He has a precious faith that I pray will grow strong and I thank God for giving us joy packaged in 40 pounds of giggles...and growing.

What things do you love about your child?

Keepin' it Real...D

  1. God Bless You for sharing this! I have a very similar boy that only the truly blessed people in the world will see how amazing he is. He has a killer sense of humor, and he sees all the little things in the world that I would otherwise breeze on past. Because of him I see beautiful flowers on the side of the highway. I see interesting bugs hidden in a pile of gravel at the horse barn. I see the shape of a heart in the coloring of a Paint pony that before my boy had simply blended in with his coloring. our boys are true gifts from God, and their unique contributions to the world are Heaven Sent. Thank you for putting it all so sensible and matter of fact!

  3. What a wonderful post! Thank you for sharing! I too try very hard to focus more on the strengths of my very challenging son. Between the ADHD, the PDD-NOS, and the overall strong-willness, I've been challenged, surprised, in absolute tears, and even questioned my competence more than I can remember. However, God gave me a son that has taught me more about myself and the opportunity to grow in ways I didn't think I ever would before having him. He is truly a blessing. I love his resillence, his spirit, his ENERGY, his hugs, his desire to help others, his amazing ability to adapt to technology, and his silliness. He may not fit into the mold that society seems to expect, but innovation is not born from ordinary. God made us all unique individuals with gifts to embrace and share with the world.
